A military historian's view on medieval chivalry, current events and everything in between
An eclectic blend of review, analysis & commentary
Welcome to Agincourt to Cyber War by me, Brian R. Price!
I’m a military historian with wide ranging interests that revolve around culture, technology, strategy and war. I’ve been a Silicon Valley executive, a publisher, have worked in the film industry and taught at the graduate level in history and strategic studies for eight years. Today I teache strategy, planning, and military history, have been deployed twice as a civilian to Afghanistan, and, for forty years, have pursued the study of swordsmanship as a martial art.
Throughout the years I’ve had great response from social media posts and essays published all over, so it’s time to focus them here!
Agincourt to Cyber War will bring a historian’s perspective to current events, strategy, technology and culture. Sometimes we’ll examine purely historical events—other times the the letter will grapple with the thorny issues of democracy, civil-military relations, international affairs, technology and war. I’ve found there are often amazing parallels to be found—cross domain observations, if you will—from events that might seem to be unrelated. In Afghanistan, for example, my experience in the study of medieval Europe came in handy when looking at the Pashtun martial culture guided by the ideas of Pashtunwali. So the ride will be quirky, but hopefully thought-provoking.
